Pretesting Equipment

Our new pre-testing equipment has combined four tests into one testing instrument.

The four tests give us invaluable information about your prescription, curvature of your eyes, thickness of your corneas and of course the pressure in your eye (the dreaded air puff test).  Rest assured that this air puff is much lighter than our previous equipment.

Optical Coherence Tomography

There are many eye diseases that have an impact on the retina and optic nerve of the eyes.

  • Macular Degeneration

  • Glaucoma

General health conditions and certain medications can also cause eye health and vision problems.

  • Diabetes

  • High Blood Pressure

  • Elevated Cholesterol

We have an advanced technology imaging system called the OCT that gives the doctors high quality images (like an X-ray or MRI) of the retina and the optic nerve. This technology allows the doctors to see layers of the back of the eye that cannot be detected by the “naked” eye.

This technology allows for earlier diagnosis of eye health and general health conditions and superior monitoring of these conditions and this is why the doctors at Wheildon MacKenzie Optometry highly recommend baseline imaging for everyone and ongoing imaging for those patients with, or at risk for, diseases of the retina and optic nerve.

The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not cover the fees for this advanced technology. Patients may be able to claim through their third party health insurance for this testing. This is a great investment to ensure that your eye exam has a superior standard of care.

Visual Fields

Peripheral visual field testing is very important in the early detection and monitoring of glaucoma, neurological defects and field loss due to certain medications. It is also important in regards to driver’s licenses and pilot licenses.
